Fauré Now and Then

Faure Now and Then Album Cover Back compressed.jpg

Fauré Now and Then is an album of seven compositions by Gabriel Fauré, recorded for the centenary of composer's death by cellist Aleksandra Pykacz and pianist Shirley Wu.

The title Now and Then is a wordplay on “the music from then, performed now,” as well as on the English expression “sometimes” or “on occasion". Each of the pieces - from the melancholic Sicilienne and the stormy, funereal Élégie to the light-as-champagne Papillon and the romantic Après un Rêve - could be performed or enjoyed on different occasions. The album takes the listener on a journey through Fauré’s short compositions for cello and piano (including two arrangements, Après un Rêve and Berceuse), showcasing differences and similarities between them, depending on their style and the period of Fauré’s life and journey as a composer.

The album has been released through an independent label ASPA Records on November 4 2024, 100 years after Fauré's death.
